What’s the Difference?

While they often overlap, the focus of the work is different:-

  • Sport Management: This is the “Business Side” of sports. You handle team operations, marketing, sponsorships, athlete representation, and the financial sustainability of a club or brand.
  • Event Management: This is the “Execution Side”. You are responsible for the conceptualisation, planning, and logistics of a specific event—whether it’s a local tournament, a corporate gala, or an international championship.

  • Events management → planning weddings, festivals, corporate functions.
  • Sports management → running clubs, tournaments, or facilities.
  • Marketing & sponsorships → linking sports/events with funding.

💡 Pro Tip: This is a “who you know” industry. I highly recommend students volunteer at local parkruns, school sports days, or community festivals to build a network before they even graduate.
