SUBJECT CHOICE CONSULTING

As educational systems become more streamlined, school subject choices directly influence tertiary education options. In fact, the subjects chosen can be seen as the first phase of career development. We partner with learners and their parents to help them get a clearer picture of what options are out there and what the learners’ interests and abilities are. We establish which subjects will enable a broad career scope, so that by the time they make their first selection towards the end of Grade 11, they are not hampered by poor choices made previously.

Choosing subjects for your last school phase can be daunting – and limiting if not managed correctly. An informed and calculated choice, taking the individual and future possibilities into consideration is essential as your subject choice lays the foundation for your future career options.

This assessment is typically done during the Grade 9 school year. Often though, Grade 10 learners who doubt their chosen subjects, also opt for this service.

This service includes:

  • An in-depth psychometric evaluation:
  • The psychometric assessment is comprehensive and evaluates the following aspects: aptitude, interests, personality, values, financial management and stress factors.
  • The psychometric tests utilised are rigorously researched and are standardised measuring instruments to produce scientifically valid and reliable results.
  • The results are scientifically analysed for thorough feedback.
  • A comprehensive individualised feedback session (two hours)
    During this session:
  • the psychometric test results are discussed,
  • subject choice options are recommended, which will support and benefit the student’s future career options.
  • A written report, access to online resources and self-help tools.
  • Ongoing assistance with your subject choice as needed to keep you on track.

CAREER CHOICE ASSESSMENT AND COUNCELLING

We make use of psychometric career assessment tools designed to help individuals understand how their personal attributes (personality, interests, skills and values) impact their potential success and job satisfaction in different career options and work environments.

Most of us spend more time planning our vacation than our life. What about you? Do you feel less than excited about your current job/career?
No matter what stage you are in life – deciding on or busy with your first career; in your thirties and dissatisfied with your work and looking for a change; or in midlife and wanting to move beyond success to significance in your work – it is never too late to change and do work that feels more like a calling, not just a job.
Choosing a career is a process that is unique to each individual. Some people know exactly what they want to do with their lives and are merely looking for confirmation, whilst others take a little longer to identify their passion. We aim to provide what resources and guidance we can to help everyone make their choice.
A carefully considered decision with intentionally chosen subjects, taking the individual as well as future possibilities and demands into consideration, is needed.

We assist grade 11 and 12 learners, those busy with a GAP year, tertiary students uncertain about their chosen study programme, and individuals (no age restriction!) considering a career path change.

Important to note

It is important that learners and parents realise that the learner should take ownership of the career decision process. Psychologists, teachers, career development practitioners and parents can provide learners with a vast amount of information, but the final decision lies with the learner. They need to make the effort to ensure that the decision is the right one for them, even if that decision is only one for the immediate future.
